- The iOS app and this website
This policy covers the NAURO Marine app for iOS and this website. Both are run by NAURO Marine (“we”).
In short: the app keeps your boat’s record so that you can use it. We do not sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps and sites. HELM sends data to Anthropic only after you allow it.
1. What the app collects
- Account. Your email address. You sign in with a six-digit code sent to it. There is no password.
- Profile. Your name and, if you add them, a phone number and a photo. Your settings, such as units, theme, notifications, HELM preferences and time zone. Your crew sees your name.
- The boat’s record. What you enter about the boat, such as its name, make, model, year, hull, HIN, dimensions, engines, engine hours, photos and value. It also holds trips, service entries, the maintenance schedule, parts, calendar events, and the health scores, weekly digests and value estimates the app works out from them.
- Papers. Registrations, insurance and other documents you add to the Vault as photos or PDFs, with their issue and expiry dates.
- Home marina. The marina’s position. You set it on the map, or from your phone’s location when you tap “Use current location”.
- HELM. Your questions, conversations, attached photos and files, and the changes you confirm.
- Crew. The people you invite to a boat (by email address), their role, and whether they accepted.
- Devices. A push token for each device, so that reminders can reach it.
- Counters. Your account ID, the number of HELM questions you ask each month, and rate-limit counts, including failed sign-in attempts. They enforce plan limits and stop abuse.
Some things stay on your phone only: the Face ID lock setting, your sign-in session and your HELM consent choice (kept in the iOS keychain), and the last boat you viewed.
The app contains no analytics or advertising code. It includes a crash reporting tool, Sentry, which is switched off. If we turn it on, we will update this policy first.
2. Why we use it
To run the app you asked for. That means signing you in, keeping the boat’s record, reminding you before papers and service fall due, showing weather, tides and alerts for the marina, sharing a boat with its crew, and answering HELM questions when you allow it. We also use it to keep the service secure and within its limits.
We do not sell or rent your data, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers.
Where the law asks for a legal basis, we rely on our contract with you to run the app, on your consent for HELM, and on our legitimate interest in security, preventing abuse, and running the beta.
3. HELM and Anthropic
HELM is an assistant built on Claude, a model made by Anthropic. It answers from the boat’s own record.
Before anything is sent, the app asks for your permission. Once you allow it, we send Anthropic:
- your question and the boat’s records needed to answer it,
- any photo or file you attach,
- your boats’ records each week, to write the weekly digest and the value estimate,
- a scrambled (keyed hash) form of your account ID, which helps prevent abuse.
For a value estimate we send the boat’s year, make, model, length and engines, and Claude compares them with public for-sale listings on the web. The result is an estimate, not an appraisal.
You can withdraw permission in Account › HELM data sharing. With it off, nothing is sent to Anthropic. The digest falls back to a plain summary, and HELM asks again before your next question. Our server also refuses to call the model without your consent.
Anthropic processes this data to produce the answer, under its commercial terms. How long Anthropic keeps it is set by those terms.
4. Permissions on your phone
- Camera, to photograph the boat or a paper for the Vault.
- Photos, to choose a photo or paper through the system picker, and to save a registry card image when you share it.
- Location while using the app, asked only when you tap “Use current location” to pin a marina. Never in the background.
- Face ID, for the optional app lock. Face data stays on your phone. We never see it.
- Notifications, for reminders.
The app does not ask for the microphone or motion data. You can change any permission in iOS Settings.
5. Who else handles it
- Convex hosts our database, file storage, sign-in and server functions, for both the app and this website.
- Anthropic runs HELM, the weekly digest and value estimates, with your consent.
- Resend sends sign-in code emails, the only email the app sends.
- Apple distributes the app through TestFlight and the App Store, passes on beta feedback you send through TestFlight, and provides the marina map (Apple Maps) and Face ID.
- Expo builds and updates the app, and issues the push tokens used for reminders.
- Open-Meteo, NOAA Tides & Currents and the US National Weather Service provide weather, tides and alerts. Our server asks them using the marina’s approximate position (rounded to about 1 km), with nothing that identifies you.
People you add to a boat as crew can see that boat’s records and your name. Beyond that, we share data only when the law requires it.
6. This website
The website has no accounts, no analytics and no advertising cookies. It collects only what you send through its two forms.
- Beta sign-up. Your email address, your name if you give it, where on the site you signed up, and your browser’s user agent.
- Feedback. The kind of feedback, your message, your email address if you give it, and the page you sent it from.
These entries are kept in a Convex project separate from the app’s. We use them only to run the beta and improve the app: to invite you, and to reply when you leave an address. Ask us and we will delete your entry.
Like any website, the server that delivers these pages may record standard request details, such as IP address and browser, to keep the site running and secure.
7. Where it is kept
Our providers are based in the United States, and your data is stored and processed there. If you use NAURO Marine from elsewhere, your data is transferred to the United States, under the safeguards our providers’ terms provide.
8. How long we keep it
- App data stays until you delete it or your account. Deletion is immediate.
- Sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes. Sent sign-in emails (address and code) are deleted from our email logs after 1 day.
- Crew invitations lapse after 14 days.
- Unused HELM attachments and orphaned files are cleared daily.
- The weather and tide cache holds no personal data, and is cleared when a marina has not been looked up for a while.
- Beta sign-ups and feedback are kept while the beta needs them, or until you ask us to remove them.
- Data sent to Anthropic is kept under Anthropic’s terms.
9. Your data, your choices
You can change or delete any record in the app. Settings › Data exports everything as a JSON file, plus a CSV of your boats.
To delete your account, go to More, tap your account, then Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, the boats you own with all their records, photos and papers, your HELM conversations and attachments, your devices, your crew seats and pending invitations. Crew lose access to the boats you own. It cannot be undone. If you signed in more than about a day ago, the app asks you to sign in again first.
The website has no account. To have a beta sign-up or feedback entry removed, email hello@naurobeta.com.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your data, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to complain to your data protection authority. Email us to use any of these rights.
10. Security
Sign-in uses one-time codes instead of passwords. Codes expire after 10 minutes, and repeated wrong attempts are limited. Data travels over encrypted connections. The app can lock with Face ID, and it blocks screenshots on the Vault, HELM and document screens.
No system is perfectly secure. If you find a problem, tell us at hello@naurobeta.com.
11. Children
NAURO Marine is not directed to children under 13, or under 16 where local law sets that age. We do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us data, email us and we will delete it.
12. Changes
When this policy changes, we update the effective date above. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
13. Contact
